The Florida State Seminoles are nearly back in action for Week 5 after taking home a win against Central Arkansas in Week 4. The win over the Bears delivered more questions than answers after posting a more impressive game offensively against the Alabama Crimson Tide the week prior.
Coach Mike Norvell is once again in an awkward position as one win cannot guarantee any job security, but a loss could push him that much closer to being bought out. A win over Virginia is needed to temporarily stop the bleeding and impress the massive number of recruits who will be in attendance.
Florida State lost a 2027 class commitment from tight end Connor Winn earlier in the week, and with multiple commitments in attendance, an ugly loss to Virginia could be a tipping point in the recruiting world. There is more than enough motivation present for the Seminoles, and now the question is whether or not the team will capitalize.
Confidence in the Seminoles has been growing throughout the week, as Virginia was previously a 2.5-point favorite to win in Tallahassee. The shift is significant since Florida State has not lost to Virginia at Doak Campbell Stadium since 2011, with a 9-1 home record against the Cavaliers.

Florida State vs. Virginia prediction
All week, the talk about this game has involved stopping the run, moving the football effectively through the air, and matching physicality with physicality. The issue, however, is that nothing has gone according to plan this season for Florida State. A hard-nose, power-run game is what the Seminoles' staff is looking for, and for that reason it, likely will not happen.
Virginia is a veteran-led team, and the defense in particular relies upon veteran experience to promote success. When the Cavaliers are off-balance, opposing teams can take advantage, and Florida State has all of the tools to do so.
A rushing attack of Ashton Daniels, Ousmane Kromah, and Tre Wisner, coupled with dangerous receivers like Jayvan Boggs and Duce Robinson, creates a dynamic offense. Getting the run game involved early will be key, but Robinson could do serious damage against the Virginia secondary, similar to how he was able to find success against Alabama.
On defense, Florida State likely will not be able to fully stop the run, but containing the extent of the production will be key. Virginia loves to utilize play-action passes, and with a struggling Seminoles' secondary lined up, Beau Pribula could spend a good chunk of the game throwing the football.
Pribula is currently projected to attempt 258 passes this season, which would be a career low, on the heels of a 2025 season where he tossed nine interceptions. Pribula struggles when put in situations where he must pass, and Virginia has been able to limit the number of those situations. The Florida State secondary might be banged up, but there is still plenty of talent, and Pribula could certainly make costly mistakes when trying to be aggressive.
The clash of two offenses with the ability to break off big plays should promote a high scoring game, and with the help of the home crowd, Florida State can pull-off the shootout win.
