Florida State double legacy commit says the words all frustrated fans want to hear

This is the type of attitude all Florida State players need to have.

Florida State football coaches are about to embark on one of the most important stretches for acquiring quality talent for the program. The Noles finally added their quarterback commit to the 2027 recruiting class: three-star double legacy, Logan Flaherty.

Flaherty had been a Florida State target for quite some time, and ultimately, that’s where his heart was, according to what he told Noles247. The other thing that he said after committing is exactly what all frustrated Florida State fans should want to hear.

Flaherty mentioned he’d probably get with Florida State coaches to identify the top targets on their recruiting board so he could start building relationships with those guys. A quarterback commit is usually the “leader” of a recruiting class, and we’ve seen quarterback commits under Mike Norvell take on major roles in recruitment. One that comes to mind was Luke Kromenhoek a couple of years ago, but Kromenhoek became a top 50 player nationally, which gave him some credibility among the top players.

Flaherty’s ranking isn’t anywhere near that, but I think he’s respected for what he’s accomplished at his high school.

“I'm going to take it from the perspective of, I want guys around me, and they want guys to play for them, that believe in Florida State and that want to be at Florida State.

Florida State has some major work to do on the recruiting trails if they want to sign a good class.

There's a lot of different perspectives on college football nowadays, but I think you can get ballers that want to play for the school and want to be at your school. They'll show up every day and give you 100%, and they'll be able to compete with the best of the best. I think that'll be my main focus—calling these guys, reaching out to some of these guys, and figuring out like, 'Hey, if you want to do this thing, if you believe in Florida State, then let's get it done. Let's return Florida State to where Florida State football should always be at.”

That’s probably the smart approach, since Florida State doesn’t seem willing to break the bank for the top players at every position. I think they will prioritize a few guys at certain positions, but ultimately, it’ll probably be a group of lower-tiered blue-chip or high three-star players like Logan Flaherty. The days of players choosing a school because it was their dream school are likely done with how much money is thrown around in revenue sharing and NIL(or pay for play).

However, Flaherty’s sentiment of getting Florida State back to where it’s supposed to be is a refreshing take that we haven’t heard from many Florida State commits lately. I’m sure both of his parents graduating from Florida State and Flaherty growing up as a Florida State fan made a major impact on that. He’s got some major work to do, but there are some players that he could have some influence on in the recruiting circles.

Florida State has the No. 39 recruiting class nationally, with only seven commitments. They took over 30 high school players last year, so there’s a lot of room left to fill if they plan to go that route for a second time. Here’s to hoping the Noles can make up the large gap between them and their rivals and other ACC teams.
