Florida State football recruiting has not seen any movement thus far for its 2027 recruiting class. This period is all about getting official visits set up, but the Seminoles only have six commitments and have plenty of work to do.
Florida State is seeing a large number of prospects committing elsewhere, and the Seminoles could be a big-time target come off their board on Friday with four-star quarterback Champ Monds IV from Vero Beach, Florida.
Monds IV was someone that the fan base thought that Florida State had a very good chance with, but as time went along and the Seminoles never secured a pledge, it became apparent that the two sides were exploring their options.
The only problem is that Florida State was also striking out on other options, and it seemed that Monds IV was their top target. With that said, the Vero Beach, Florida native decided to take a trip to Notre Dame for an unofficial visit.
Three-star quarterback prospect Logan Flaherty could be committing to Florida State in the near future
The trip turned out so well for head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish that Monds IV now has a crystal ball prediction in favor of their program, and he announced that he will be deciding between Florida State, Notre Dame, and Ohio State on Friday, May 1st.
This doesn't seem to be good news for the Seminoles. In fact, this feels like a moment where the fan base will highlight yet another blunder by the coaching staff with the quarterback position. To be honest, I cannot blame the fan base for feeling that way since Monds IV had been the top priority for so long, and he takes his first-ever visit to Notre Dame and potentially commits to them.
Florida State will likely go all-in on three-star option Logan Flaherty from Port Charlotte, Florida, which the fan base will not be happy with because he is rated as a three-star prospect, he was previously committed to UCF, and the coaching staff missed out on getting Monds IV.
The pursuit of Flaherty could happen relatively quickly. The Seminoles generally like to combat bad news with good news, and while some fans don't think the Port Charlotte quarterback is good news, I believe that he could be a productive dual-threat piece if he puts it all together.
All in all, the fan base is going to be frustrated, and head coach Mike Norvell is on a short leash from them because of the combined seven wins in two years. That could make it difficult for anyone to believe in you, but I hope that Norvell gets it turned around on the gridiron, and Flaherty turns out to be really good (if the Seminoles grab him).
