Florida State baseball (38-15, 19-10 ACC) had a massive come-from-behind victory over the rival Miami Hurricanes (35-17, 15-14 ACC) on Thursday night and continued that momentum into Friday night’s game, winning 11-1 to clinch the series. One of the keys to victory was FSU starting pitchers going into the fifth and sixth innings.

Trey Beard was tremendous after allowing a solo home run in the first inning. He pitched six innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, one walk, and eight strikeouts. The formula to use minimal guys out of the bullpen worked as Brodie Purcell was dynamite, pitching three innings, allowing one hit, one walk, and five strikeouts.

Florida State hitters responded to Miami's early lead with a three-run rally in the bottom of the second inning. They scored two in the bottom of the fourth, and another in the fifth. Hunter Carns with 2-4 with a home run. Cal Fisher has a big game, going 2-5 with three RBI, including a massive two-run single in the bottom of the eighth that effectively put the Canes away before it eventually happened. Brody DeLamielleure laced a two-run single to extend his hitting streak in the eigth inning. Gabe Fraser walked off Miami with a RBI single, ironcically, because he was the guy Miami hit twice because he was talking so much smack after the win on Thursday night.

Florida State has domiated the Miami Hurricanes over the past few seasons and will go for the series sweep on Saturday.

FSU had 11 hits, but had 13 walks from Miami pitchers. They left 14 runners on base and had several chances to blow the Canes away before finally opening it up in the bottom of the eighth. They only struckout seven times. When FSU strikes out less than 10 times in a game, good things usually happen.

The extra-inning game took its toll on Miami’s bullpen, which was already a weakness. The Miami starter only went 2.2 innings; Miami used five more pitchers. This will likely come into play in Saturday's game since Miami used a ton of pitchers in Thursday's game.

One other thing we highlighted in our series preview was Miami’s defensive liability, and they showed in this game with three errors.

We said the way Florida State won the game on Thursday might have taken the wind out of Miami’s sails. Once Florida State responded after Miami’s early lead, the Canes had nothing. FSU will go for the series sweep and the statement win on Saturday afternoon.
