Florida State basketball finished on a high note, where they won eleven of their last fifteen contests. Head coach Luke Loucks joined the Seminoles for his first season at the helm, so the fan base had high hopes for the former point guard.
However, when the Seminoles lost to North Carolina State by a score of 113-69 at home, the optimism turned to concern. Florida State started the conference slate with a 0-5 record, but ultimately finished the year with an 18-14 overall record, which was incredible.
Florida State doesn't want to turn into a school that is happy about moral victories. This is not the unconquered spirit of the Seminole nation.
Coach Loucks managed to have a recruiting class that ranked just outside the top ten, then he landed transfers such as Shon Abaev, Cooper Schwieger, Anthony Robinson II, Sebastian Rancik, and Kameron Taylor in the portal.
The excitement for a potential NCAA Tournament run for the 2026-2027 season could be in play, especially with the field expected to expand to 76 teams. While I believe that it will water down the tournament, it should give Loucks confidence that Florida State could make some noise in Year 2.
Florida State basketball is still being disrespected by the public
Most fans think that Florida State's basketball team will be highly competitive if some of the younger players step up to the plate, such as true freshman Marcis Ponder, who the Seminoles will be relying on in 2026.
I get that the Seminoles have made the NCAA Tournament in five years, but the general public isn't catching on to how good Florida State could be next year.
Analyst Andy Katz dropped his way-too-early 2027 NCAA Tournament field with the expanded 76 teams, and guess who isn't in the field? You guessed it, Florida State!

While I know that it is a prediction, Florida State basketball has a chance to be dangerous in the ACC. If the Seminoles can find a way to integrate more of Coach Loucks' offensive philosophy, with turning defense into offense, then Florida State will be just fine.
