It’s amazing what can change in a week. Florida State lost to Florida and went on the road to get swept by the No. 3 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets last week. This week, they defeated Stetson and swept the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a three-game series.

I wrote after the losses against Georgia Tech that FSU wasn’t as bad as everyone thought, and Georgia Tech wasn’t as good as everyone thought.

The Yellow Jackets went on the road and lost two of three against North Carolina this weekend. I keep going back to how it’s all about the matchups. Don’t get it twisted, Notre Dame isn’t a good team, and there’s a reason they are nearly .500 with an RPI in the 70’s or worse.

However, it’s hard to sweep teams, especially when FSU didn’t have its usual Sunday starter, Bryson Moore, start the game. However, Cooper Whited did what he’s been doing all year in midweek starts, and the FSU offense overcame a late 4-2 deficit for a 6-4 win on Sunday.

The hitting was contagious for the Noles all weekend, and it was a group of guys you wouldn’t expect to do all of the damage lately. Nathan Cmeyla had a huge two-out triple to give the Noles the lead for good, and Brody Delamiellure had a two-run home run to tie the game after Notre Dame took an early 2-0 lead after four innings. Some credit has to go to the bullpen, as they allowed two earned runs in six innings of relief.

It was a total team effort on offense and on the mound for the Noles. A lot of guys stepped up and contributed to the three wins.

The game also allowed some guys who may be needed in the postseason to get some good work. Brodie Purcell, Chris Knier, Cade O’leary, and Cole Stokes all saw action.

The series sweep keeps Florida State in the top four in the ACC standings. They will travel to North Florida on Tuesday before heading out west to take on the Stanford Cardinals. FSU will be favored, but crazy things have happened out west, so they’ll need to be on point.
