Florida State and Mike Norvell miss out on transfer target with legendary name

This was a quick recruitment that went in another direction after visiting Florida State.

Florida State has secured two transfers thus far in the portal window, with South Alabama cornerback Nehemiah Chandler and Texas running back Tre Wisner. While neither of them were positions of immediate need, the coaching staff thought it would be wise to add them to the team.

The Seminoles need all the help that they can get after finishing the season with winning only two of their last nine games. That is not the standard of this proud university. The fan base is frustrated with the product that head football coach Mike Norvell has had during his tenure with Florida State over six years.

However, Coach Norvell still has time to redeem himself. It all starts with player acquisition in the transfer portal. While cornerback and running back are not pressing wants, they can be pieces to help the team get better in 2026.

The Seminoles have dealt with departures on their roster from the portal (please don't mention the Desir Twins...). Some of the losses are bigger than others. With that said, the tight end position could be in rough shape as Randy Pittman and now Amaree Williams (split time at defensive end too) have entered the transfer portal.

The coaching staff was lucky to get Landen Thomas back in the fold, but the Seminoles were able to get a visit from Colorado State tight end transfer Rocky Beers recently. However, Florida State never gets consistent good news as Beers has decided to commit to Oklahoma.

This isn't to say that Beers was some can't-miss talent that Florida State struck out on, but having seven touchdowns last year would have been nice in an offense that wants to be more consistent.

Tight ends should be the least of the concerns, as Florida State has far greater needs. However, it goes to show how fast the transfer portal can move during this window.
