The Florida State football program concluded its final spring practice on Wednesday, and head coach Mike Norvell met with the media afterwards to recap it all. He spoke about a variety of things, but one of the major accomplishments he pointed out was that they didn’t suffer any injuries in the spring that would stretch into games.
They ended the spring “relatively healthy,” according to Norvell.
The overall team health is in a good place and that's a huge positive exiting spring camp.
We know they limited several of the older veteran players, like Duce Robinson and Jabril Rawls. Micahi Danzy was limited because he’s also running track at Florida State, as expected. There were only a handful of guys who missed time with injuries, with the latest announcement being sophomore Jayvan Boggs. However, it appears his injury is relatively minor.
Injuries were a major part of spring camp last year, with the majority of the offensive line missing time. Some transfer arrived at Florida State from the transfer portal with injuries that prevented them from getting valuable reps.
Florida State escaping spring camp relatively injury free means those players can continue to work on their craft, lift, get strong and bigger this summer in preparation for fall camp.
The rules changed in recent years where teams aren't as limited as in years past with the amount of hours the coaching staff can spend with player groups. That means tons of player development can continue, which is important because FSU has lot of new faces from the transfer portal and the high school ranks.
This news should have Florida State fans excited about the summer and what's to come in fall camp. They have the potential to be better on offense if a couple things break the right way. The defense won't be elite, but they have several returners and some experienced players from the transfer portal in the fold. The expectation is they will be better coordinated at the very least. All in all, they should be competitive, but can they execute at a high level is the biggest question.
