FSU FOOTBALL RECRUITING OUTLOOK

Florida State football is currently ranked as the 13th-best recruiting class in the 2026 cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite. However, it could be ranked even higher as five-star cornerback target Chauncey Kennon from Booker High School in Sarasota, Florida, announces his commitment today at 5:00 PM EST.

Kennon has been a long-time target for the Seminoles and someone that the coaching staff has circled and built a relationship with. The recruitment reminds me of former highly-touted recruit Charles Lester III, who is ironically from the same area in Sarasota, Florida.

The talented defender has several crystal ball predictions in favor of the Seminoles, despite schools such as Georgia, Florida, Oregon, LSU, and Miami being involved in his recruitment.

I am speaking the obvious here, but this would be a massive get for the Seminoles as they look to build themselves through high school recruiting. It would be Florida State's second five-star prospect secured in the Mike Norvell era (wide receiver Hykeem Williams was the other).

RECRUITING UNDER NORVELL

I don't pay attention much to the star rankings because quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, tight end Landen Thomas, and cornerback Charles Lester III were all five-star prospects, but then they were demoted to four-star prospects later in the cycle before they signed with Florida State.

It isn't like Norvell hasn't brought in talent. Many individuals think that he cannot recruit high school prospects; instead, he has gotten many transfers to fill the void at certain positions on the roster.

Florida State football has not taken a large class either, which is partially why the recruiting classes have been a little lower than expected by some. Not to mention that the program has had two winning seasons in five under Norvell.

Nonetheless, a Kennon commitment would elevate the Seminoles' 2026 recruiting class from 13th to 11th.
