FSU FOOTBALL DISASTER IN 2024
Florida State football already endured a 2-10 season in 2024. We, as Seminole fans, had to suffer through that dreadful campaign after the fact that the program went through the heartbreak of being snubbed from the four-team College Football Playoff in 2023 in favor of a one-loss Alabama Crimson Tide.
There were SEC homers, such as ESPN college analyst and commentator Greg McElroy, who continued to put salt in the wound for Florida State fans as they tried to say that they didn't deserve it from 2023.
As much as it stings, I want to put that 2023 campaign and move forward, but McElroy seems not to want to keep the Seminoles out of his mouth. I get that he wanted to get his beloved alma mater, Alabama, in the playoffs, but it becomes obsessive at some point.
MCELROY IS A HATER
McElroy discussed Alabama's potential for the 2025 season under second-year head football coach Kalen DeLoach, which opens up with Florida State. When discussing the Crimson Tide's win-loss potential on his "Always College Football" show, he talked about the Seminoles' 2025 squad:
"Anybody's guess what Florida State will be this year. I welcome any input that you might have because I don't know. They have a chance to be decent, but are they going to be anywhere near what they were two years ago? Probably not. "
To be honest, some of what McElroy says is true. The Seminoles' over/under win total for 2025 is 7.5. They added a brand new coaching staff, as well as acquiring new pieces via the transfer portal and recruiting ranks. It is a scary proposition to hit the reset button once again after what we saw in 2024.
RIDING WITH THE GUS BUS
Nonetheless, we know that Florida State will run the football in 2025 with new offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. During his coaching career, Malzahn has always been known for his offense's ability to control the ground game. The UCF Knights had 248.1 rushing yards per game last year.
I don't know why McElroy hates the Seminoles so much, especially considering that Malzahn defeated Alabama three times during his tenure with the Auburn Tigers. He has had success at the SEC level. However, it looks like it will be time to prove him wrong this year.
Keep hating, though. Head football coach Mike Norvell should be on a mission to win football games in 2025.
