FSU SEASON OPENER
Florida State football will be taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, August 30th in the season opener. It is an exciting time for the program that wants to correct the 2-10 campaign last year.
The defense will have to step up in a big way if it wants to knock off the Crimson Tide. They have weapons, such as Ryan Williams, Germie Bernard, and Isaiah Horton, that could make it easier for quarterback Ty Simpson to have easier opportunities in his first career road start.
JAMES WILLIAMS IS STARTING TO EMERGE
I don't want to get ahead of myself, as I had to humble myself after last season. However, this squad looks much more focused and improved from a year ago (not that hard to do).
One aspect of the Seminoles that gets me jumping for joy is the pickup of defensive coordinator Tony White. I am not suggesting that previous coordinator Adam Fuller deserved to be fired or anything like that, but I am a huge fan of the potential that Coach White brings to Tallahassee with his multiple 3-3-5 defensive schemes.
Florida State football will look much different in 2025 as it added forty-four recruits and transfers to the roster. Defensive coordinator Tony White talked to the media on Monday afternoon, and he brought up redshirt junior defensive end James Williams.
Williams has a previous relationship with defensive line coach Terrance Knighton and defensive coordinator Tony White during his time with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. However, the coaching staff is pushing the pass rusher to new heights.
Coach White stated that Williams is "playing his butt off". He also stated that he has improved in the run game by using his length and hands. I like that he is being more versatile and not just rushing the passer in situational downs. If Williams wants to be an every down lineman, this will be what he is tasked to do.
