The young defensive back is turning heads.

Florida State's coaching staff finished the 2025 recruiting class on a high note. The Seminoles had a 2-10 record in 2024 so it was difficult to forecast how that would translate with relating young high school athletes to come to Tallahassee.

Head football coach Mike Norvell had to make some difficult decisions this offseason where he had to hire new coaches on the staff. He was once all about continuity, but once the 2024 season went to flames, it was time for a change of scenery.

The Seminoles had some flips during the Early Signing Period, including running back Ousmane Kromah, wide receiver Tae'Shaun Gelsey, wide receiver Jayvan Boggs, wide receiver Teriq Mallory, offensive tackle Sean Poret, defensive end LaJesse Harrold, defensive end Tylon Lee, defensive tackle Tyeland Coleman, and cornerback Shamar Arnoux.

Arnoux was a prospect that I thought Florida State was going to land in the summer since he saved the Florida State official visit for the end of the summer. However, he decided to commit to the USC Trojans a few days later.

After the Trojans' collapse, Arnoux de-committed and then later pledged to Auburn. Seminole fans thought that the recruitment for them was done, but as we know, recruiting is wild in college football.

Florida State grabbed him back as he flipped from Auburn on Early Signing Day. Arnoux enrolled in the program early, so that he would have an advantage in being more acclimated to college football.

To make matters better, On3's Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos noted that the former Carrollton High School standout is already turning heads during his short time on Florida State's campus.

This is massive since the Seminoles did not take any defensive backs via the transfer portal this offseason. They have confidence in the young defenders at the position. Arnoux is a lanky 6'2" cornerback similar to a Jalen Ramsey type of defensive back (calm down... I am not suggesting that he is like Ramsey at this point in his career).

I cannot wait to see how defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. and safeties coach Evan Cooper manage the way the room is set up.
