FSU FOOTBALL
Florida State football will be taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, August 30th at 3:30 PM EST on ABC in the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium. The Seminoles have a chance to make a statement to eliminate their 2-10 record from a year ago.
This is a moment where the offensive and defensive units need to be physical at the point of attack. The Seminoles' offensive line was largely acquired via the transfer portal this offseason. It needed to do something, as Florida State's position group was one of the worst in all of college football last year.
Veteran assistant coach Herb Hand looks to have a plan in place as Gunnar Hansen, Richie Leonard IV, Luke Petitbon, Adrian Medley, and Micah Pettus look to be the starting rotation.
JACOB RIZY NEWS
Individuals can never get too comfortable with college football because it is so unpredictable. Redshirt senior offensive lineman Jacob Rizy could be a wrench in the plans of the rotation.
Head football coach Mike Norvell mentioned to the media on Saturday afternoon that getting offensive lineman Jacob Rizy back from injury was huge. He thinks that it adds a great component to the competition. He believes that Rizy has thrown himself right into the competition for the starting five.
To be honest, this has me concerned about an injury at offensive tackle. I know that Coach Norvell has alluded to the fact that the unit did not stay healthy during the spring and summer, so it was encouraging to have them back in fall camp.
I think that it would be the worst-case scenario if Gunnar Hansen or Micah Pettus because then they would have to rely on Lucas Simmons, Jonathan Daniels, or Jacob Rizy at the position. This isn't to say that those players are "bad", but it would be less than ideal.
