FSU FOOTBALL

Florida State football defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide this past Saturday by a score of 31-17. This had ESPN's Paul Finebaum and Greg McElroy in an awkward state, where maybe the Seminoles were better than they thought.

Quarterback Thomas Castellanos made headlines in the offseason by saying that legendary head football coach Nick Saban couldn't save them, and there wasn't any way that they were stopping him. Castellanos delivered on that statement.

To be honest, the offense confused and showed Alabama the true nature of how to be aggressive and physical running the football that Castellanos only had to throw it fourteen times.

JAYVAN BOGGS

Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn focuses on establishing the running game early and often to put the opposing defenses on their heels. In return, the playmakers didn't have to do too much this past Saturday.

The Seminoles take on East Texas A&M this Saturday at noon in Doak Campbell Stadium. This should be a contest where Castellanos throws the football downfield and hands it off to his running backs. This likely won't be a game where the signal-caller is involved heavily with his legs.

I believe that Florida State's coaching staff gets a ton of youngsters involved in the game. One player that I am monitoring is true freshman wide receiver Jayvan Boggs, who received the start for the season opener. Boggs was a sensational talent at Cocoa High School, where he recorded over 4,000 yards and 45 touchdowns combined in his junior and senior seasons.

Boggs did not record a statistic versus the Crimson Tide, but Castellanos did attempt a deep pass down the field to the Florida native, but he did not come down with it, and the play resulted in a defensive penalty. This should be an environment in which Boggs excels to get him warmed up to college football.
