FSU tight end coach Chris Thomsen has quietly been one of the best recruiters on the staff over the past couple of years.
He's already gotten a commit that surprised many when four-star Xavier Tiller committed a couple of weeks ago. Tiller is a monster get at 6'5" and 226 pounds. He's the No. 11 tight-end nationally.
FSU has been recruiting other tight ends and would like to take two in this class. They had four-star Heze Kent in for an official visit on June 20th. They had three-star Landen Miree in for an official visit on June 13th.
Kent is an interesting prospect who many schools like as an offensive lineman, but he wants to be recruited as a tight end. He is 6'6" and 310 pounds. He's from Brunswick, Georgia, and FSU is in a battle with Florida for the commitment. A Miami writer added a prediction to the Florida Gators recently.
Mireeis 6'4" and 215 pounds, hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio. He was predicted to commit to FSU shortly after his official visit from Zach Blostein at Noles247, but he's switched his prediction to Arizona State.
These recruiting guys have prediction-switching a lot lately, and nothing is written in stone. However, I'd imagine FSU likes Kent more as an offensive lineman than a tight end since they have a major need for offensive tackles, and he fits that mold.
Mire is a solid player, but he's gotta add some serious bulk before he can become a contributor. FSU signed two high school tight ends last year and added Randy Pittman(two years of eligibility remaining) from the transfer portal in the Winter window. They don't have to take another tight end and I'd rather put those resources to another position instead of reaching for someone who won't make an impact for a while.
