Florida State coaches and fans desperately need some positive news as the transfer portal season draws to a close on Friday. FSU has done solid on the offensive side, but it’s the defense that has the most question marks.

FSU took a big hit on the field and from a perception standpoint with the drama surrounding the Desir Twins. Some in the fan base would have been upset even had FSU retained the, fearing they would do the same thing a year from now. However, those two entering the portal compromise FSU’s depth on the defensive front in a big way.

FSU retained Kevin Wynn, which was a win for the staff to avoid a complete disaster. The defensive front and the linebackers are where FSU continues to need the most quality acquisitions. I feel fairly confident they will get at least one linebacker who can contribute in 2026. They might get two, but we’ll see how the recruitment of Chris Jones unfolds since he de-committed from Ole Miss, but may have signed some type of paperwork.

FSU needs some positive news in the worst way right now, as fans bubble with negativity

The biggest questions are on the defensive line. There’s one target that FSU has already had on campus that could be an option, but some other targets may emerge from teams that were in the College Football Playoff.  Can FSU afford those type players, even though some may not be proven? Are they willing to take that gamble if they have more potential than production?

FSU tried that route in 2024, and it backfired big time at several positions. It'll be interesting to see who they can add over the next day or so.
