Former FSU baseball standout and first-round draft selection Cam Smith has experienced many emotions over the past few weeks.

The announcement that he made the Houston Astros big league team from his parents in person, coupled with some struggles early in the season.

However, Friday night might be the start of one of those epic offensive onslaughts FSU baseball fans have witnessed over the past couple of years.

Smith entered Friday's game hitting .200 going 5 for his last 25 with 10 strikeouts and two walks. He had gone 1-3 in Wednesday night's game with an RBI triple. It looks like he carried some confidence into Friday night's game, going 2-4 with his first career home run and three RBI.

The home run is below:

Smith deposited that middle-in fastball over the left centerfield wall, but is always at his best when hitting the ball up the middle or to right-centerfield. That's what he did in the at-bat before hitting the home run, an RBI single.

Confidence is a crazy thing and his reaction after the RBI single tells me he might be starting to lock in as he adjusts to Major League pitching.

He's also playing right field and not third base(his position at FSU), and sometimes playing a new position on defense can affect what you do hitting as you get accustomed to everything.

Smith hit .387 for FSU baseball last season, with 16 home runs and 22 doubles. His on-base percentage was .488 and he only struck out in 17.8 percent of his at-bats.

He hit .342 with four home runs and 11 RBI in 15 spring training games, and that performance is what helped him make the Major League ball club less than a year after leaving FSU. It'll be interesting to see what he does over the next few games. I wouldn't be surprised to see his production continue to uptick as he gains more confidence.
