Former four-star safety Conrad Hussey is no longer on the roster, a couple of weeks before the season opener against Alabama, according to Noles247.

This is a player whom I've written about several times regarding my surprise that they returned to the team after the 2024 season.

Hussey made a few plays as a freshman in 2023, but failed to make any progression as a player in 2024. Frankly, he regressed badly and didn't have a good attitude.

He battled some injuries this year, which ultimately continued to hinder his progress. However, he was one of the first players that came to mind when Tony White spoke on Monday following the second fall scrimmage about players who needed to "step their a** up."

Hussey was an incredibly frustrating player. He'd show some physicality at times, and others, he'd take a terrible angle and then run beside an offensive player who had the ball in their hands for 10-12 yards before trying to make a tackle.

It was maddening. Is it a loss for the FSU defense? Not really, because I never expected him to mature and become a player after last year. FSU has had players like Earl Little Jr., KJ Kirkland, Edwin Joseph, and Ashlynd Barker emerge as players.

From a mentality standpoint, I think FSU is better off without some of the baggage from players who contributed to the debacle from last year.

FSU defensive coordinator Tony White has been adamant about players upholding the standard and meeting expectations. I think it's good that FSU is willing to depart from a player, no matter when it falls on the calendar, and no matter how talented.

I think it sends the right message to others on the roster that they better shape up or ship out.
