FSU women's basketball (23-7, 13-5 ACC) finished the season strong, winning four of their last five, including back-to-back road victories over ranked opponents to secure a double-bye in the ACC Tournament.
The double-bye was important, especially since FSU had to deal with injuries to a couple of its starters late in the season.
The Noles learned they will face No. 5 seed North Carolina (26-6, 13-5 ACC) on Friday at 11 a.m. on ESPN2.
The two teams faced off earlier this year, with FSU edging the Tarheels on the road when Ta'Niya Latson drove to the basket and made a shot to take the lead 86-84 as time expired just after North Carolina had tied the game at 84-84.
It was a tight contest, with North Carolina leading 44-43 at halftime. Latson led FSU with 25 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and a steal. Sydney Bowles and Makayla Timpson had monster games with 18 and 15 points, respectively.
FSU had 13 points off North Carolina turnovers, and 19 second-chance points. They shot 9 of 20 from the three-point line and made 15 of 16 free-throw attempts.
It was a game where the margin of error was extremely small. North Carolina defeated No. 12 seed Boston College 78-71 to earn the nod to face the Seminoles in the quarterfinals. They had lost their final two regular-season contests against Duke and Virginia before getting back into the win column in the ACC Tournament against Boston College.
The winner will take on the winner of the No. 1 seed NC State and Virginia Tech/Georgia Tech game. FSU beat Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech in the regular season but lost 97-74 against NC State at home.
FSU women's basketball will be an NCAA Tournament team, but getting at least one win in the ACC Tournament should head their seeding, especially if it's against NC State.
