Florida State football started the 2025 season with a 3-0 record with a huge victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide by a score of 31-17. Since they defeated Alabama, there was a portion of individuals who thought the Seminoles could be serious College Football Playoff contenders.
Florida State got the chance to play East Texas A&M and Kent State at home before traveling to the Virginia Cavaliers in a weird Friday night road tilt in Charlottesville. This was a game that the fan base had circled because it had the potential to be scary.
The Seminoles looked out of sync all night, but they mounted a comeback to ensure that the game went to overtime. Unfortunately, it was not enough as the defense couldn't seem to stop the running game, plus the play of quarterback Chandler Morris wasn't horrible either.
Florida State ended up losing the game by a score of 46-38 in double overtime.
Virginia got itself a new quarterback for the 2026 season
Florida State will be looking to get its revenge on the Virginia Cavaliers in 2026, as they will be welcoming them into Doak Campbell Stadium. We already mentioned that transfer DJ Lagway visited there after the Seminoles' visit, but ultimately landed at Baylor.
Then veteran quarterback Chandler Morris got his waiver denied for another year of college football.
This is where the college football landscape is nowadays. It is unpredictable. However, it is refreshing to see the NCAA not let Morris have any more eligibility, since he has been in college dating back to the Stone Age.
In all seriousness, the Cavaliers had to find themselves another quarterback for the offense since Morris is gone. Virginia got the commitment from Missouri transfer Beau Pribula.

Pribula dealt with an ankle last year with the Tigers, but he showed flashes of being successful against the likes of Kansas, Auburn, and South Carolina.
The Seminoles' defense still needs to add pieces in the transfer portal to its unit to stop quarterbacks such as Beau Pribula. The former Missouri signal-caller could elevate the Cavaliers to ten wins in 2026.
