A new quarterback transfer option could be emerging quickly for the Seminoles

This is an interesting name to monitor for Florida State.

One of the biggest storylines in Florida State football's transfer portal window is what they will do at the quarterback position. The Seminoles tried their hand at the market over the past two offseasons with DJ Uiagalelei and Thomas Castellanos, but had mixed results.

Florida State football has a combined seven victories over the last two seasons, so the urgency to win is now for head football coach Mike Norvell and his squad.

One way to get back to their winning ways is ensuring that they have a serviceable quarterback under center in 2026. Some fans think that youngster Kevin Sperry could be the answer, while others think that they will have to go to the portal for a veteran option.

Two transfers that have been linked to the Seminoles have been Old Dominion's Colton Joseph and UNLV's Anthony Colandrea. However, both signal-callers are visiting other schools first. Joseph is heading to Wisconsin and Colandrea is heading to Tennessee.

While this isn't a situation where Florida State is out of the picture, it isn't ideal that both could be looking at other schools if the Seminoles' coaching staff wants one of them. Meanwhile, the Seminoles only have two scholarship options on the roster with Sperry and four-star signee Jaden O'Neal, so they need another quarterback, even for depth purposes.

Warchant's Matt LaSerre has reported that there has been contact between Florida State and Florida quarterback transfer DJ Lagway.

This is an interesting development because the talent is there with Lagway, since he was a former five-star prospect in the 2024 cycle. However, the sophomore did not pan out with a high level of consistency in Gainsville, as former Gators coach Billy Napier headed to James Madison.

While the talented signal-caller wouldn't be my first choice, he is an option that intrigues me because he could just need a new environment to thrive in an offensive scheme. This could be something to watch if a visit does get set up for Lagway in the coming days.
