LB ELIJAH HERRING

Florida State has three solid linebackers on its roster with Blake Nichelson, Omar Graham Jr., and Justin Cryer. However, none of them accomplished much in 2024 even though Graham Jr. showed flashes of being successful at the end of the year.

The Seminoles decided to part ways with linebackers coach Randy Shannon, which is something that the fan base had been wanting for a while. Even though the linebackers had been developed fairly well, the recruiting at the position was to be desired.

Florida State added former North Carolina linebacker transfer Caleb LaVallee, who had a sensational bowl game performance in his first start where he had nine tackles and was all over the field. However, LaVallee looks to be a player that they would be grooming in the position room for the future.

The Seminoles did add former Tennessee and Memphis linebacker transfer Elijah Herring, who I am very excited about. During the 2023 season, he recorded 80 tackles for the Volunteers. Then, he accumulated 60 tackles in 2024 with Memphis. Translation: Herring is an instinctual player.

Herring should be in heavy consideration for being a starting linebacker for the Seminoles in 2025. It was a good pickup for a team that needs energy next season to put 2024 behind them.
