The 2026 season is fully underway for Florida State after splitting the first two games of the season, but despite the results on the field, recruiting remains busy as ever in Tallahassee. The Seminoles had a loaded crowd of 2028 recruits and 2027 flip targets in attendance for the Week 1 clash against SMU, including top targets Prince Che and Nation Farmer.
The recruiting trail delivers all sorts of surprises, and the number of major recruits coming to visit the program despite the current state is notable. Coach Mike Norvell received news of another potential win on the recruiting trail, as 2028 four-star Syracuse offensive line commitment Omari Lawson revealed that he is in the process of finalizing a visit.
Florida State is getting a chance to strengthen the 2028 class with Omari Lawson set to visit
Lawson and the Seminoles will soon get the chance to potentially know each other better, but the relationship between the two started months ago. Florida State locked in a visit with Lawson, and the idea of completing the commitment flip began to float around. However, Lawson canceled his visits with Florida and Florida State nearly two weeks ago, which quickly broke apart any sort of perceived momentum the Seminoles had.
Fast-forward to today, and Lawson is currently in the process of finalizing a new visit date with the Florida State staff. The offensive tackle is leaving the door open on his recruitment despite committing to Syracuse after flying through the class rankings. Another very strong season could tip Lawson into five-star territory, which will only intensify the pursuit for a commitment flip from across the college football landscape.
The talented four-star offensive tackle from Jacksonville announced his commitment to Syracuse last October. The Orange was the first program to offer Lawson, and being the first has allowed the two to develop a very close relationship. With opportunities in nearly every conference now, including multiple in-state offers, retaining Lawson could become a very difficult task.
The visit is key for the Seminoles, but Lawson additionally plans on visiting Florida and Syracuse, as a potential three-team battle grows. Florida State has tons of ground to make up to flip Lawson away from the Orange, and winning games between now and when Lawson hits campus will be extremely important.
Given how the team has played recently and the uncertainty surrounding the coaching staff, there are not many true flip opportunities for Florida State. Lawson is potentially the next piece of the puzzle in the 2028 cycle for the Seminoles, but the question is going to be whether or not the recruit can see past the current mess.
