Florida State is nearly back in action for a tough Week 1 clash against No. 19 SMU on Monday at Doak Campbell Stadium. The Seminoles did not deliver the best performance in Week 0 against New Mexico State, with a handful of notable recruiting targets in attendance. The same stage will be set for Florida State again on Monday, but this time around the opponent will be far more accomplished.
The Seminoles were unable to fully put New Mexico State away last weekend, even with everything that is currently on the line for head coach Mike Norvell. Recruiting is one area Norvell has found some success after securing the sixth-best transfer portal class this off-season, according to 247Sports. Norvell has a chance to impress a successful batch of recruits during one of the biggest early-season games in the ACC.

Notably, Florida State will be hosting some of the best recruits on the board in the 2028 class during the game against SMU. Quarterback Chandler Dyson, safety Jaden Keelen, offensive tackle Nation Farmer, and edge rusher Kameron McGee are all considered to be important recruiting targets for the Seminoles.
Visits can always be a massive tool for a program to bring in talent during the excitement of a home game. Florida State has a chance to make a serious impression on some of the more talented recruits in the 2028 class with the right performance on the field. The 2028 class has certainly become a focus for many programs across the country, but Florida State is not quite ready to give up on the 2027 recruiting class.
The Seminoles will be hosting three flip targets in the 2027 class, as Errol Demontagnac (Nebraska), Theo Wilson (UNC), and Isaac Andrews (Kennesaw State) will be attending the game. Demontagnac and Wilson would both be notable additions to the class late in the cycle, and Norvell does not have to go far to find talent, as the Armwood High School duo has impressed.
Norvell may not have put together the craziest recruiting weekend possible for the SMU challenge, but the coach is aiming to make a push for prized recruits early. A win over the ranked Mustangs would certainly be huge for Florida State, but fixing some areas of concern during the game, such as the offensive line, would go a long way with the visiting recruits.
