4-star linebacker commit did not make his final decision as Seminoles await selection

Four-star linebacker commit could be solid for the Seminoles if he ends up signing.

FSU FOOTBALL RECRUITING OUTLOOK

Florida State football recruiting has been red-hot this summer, as they ranked as the 12th-best class in the 2026 cycle, according to 247Sports Composite.

The Seminoles have had the luxury of getting some high-quality high school talent this offseason. The arch-rivals Miami and Florida will dislike the idea of Florida State football being successful and will call it a fluke. However, it is encouraging that the logo still carries weight.

Recruiting is something that can be classified as a roller coaster ride of emotions. Some high schoolers might be deciding on schools like they pick out their attire when they wake up.

It is a shame that everyone cannot be like former defensive back Derwin James Jr., who pledged to former head football coach Jimbo Fisher and the Seminoles. James Jr. even had a Florida State tattoo.

I realize that five-star cornerback commit Chauncey Kennon posted recently that he was hiding his Seminole tattoo that he had gotten, which makes you excited about Florida State football being back in terms of their recruiting efforts.

KARON MAYCOCK

One of the more concerning pledges that Florida State has in its 2026 recruiting class is four-star linebacker Karon Maycock from Miami Central High School in Miami, Florida. As many individuals know, South Florida prospects are so unpredictable with their every move.

However, there is a reason that they are highly sought after. That region is a hotbed for recruiting. If Florida State wants to remain competitive nationally, they have to secure a couple of prospects from there.

Maycock announced on social media that he would be making his final decision on July 7th between Florida State, Alabama, and Florida.

I get the perspective that it is a bit out there to make a final decision when you are already committed to a school. However, that is his decision, not mine.

As it relates to Maycock, I thought that the Alabama Crimson Tide had a solid chance to land him, but they secured the commitment of five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin, who was someone that Florida State also wanted in their recruiting class.

I know that the linebacker prospect did not post anything publicly, but there should be optimistic that Florida State has a solid chance to keep Maycock in the class.
