Florida State football will be navigating another offseason after coming off a losing season. It has to be exhausting for the Seminole fan base to endure a 7-17 record. This isn't something that the program is used to, considering that the standard is competing for championships.
This isn't the home that the legendary Bobby Bowden built. Head football coach Mike Norvell is firmly on the hot seat in the minds of many individuals. Most of the fan base thought that he was gone after the embarrassing Stanford road loss.
Florida State's football program is in rough shape, and they are looking for anything positive. The fan base got another kick in the face, as it was reported that the Seminoles will not be having their spring game in 2026. As a result, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight three reasons why this is a terrible idea for the program.
The Florida State football program needs a spark of great energy
It seems like ever since Florida State football was snubbed by the College Football Playoff committee in 2023, the program has gone downhill. The Seminoles need something to go in their favor, and a spring game with a stadium full of fans would have brought excitement to the university.
Florida State cannot show its youngsters on the roster
There was fear across the country that opposing teams would steal players from the roster if they held spring games in 2025. However, with only one portal window for undergraduates, that should be a thing of the past. I can't speak too soon with Miami stealing Duke quarterback Darian Mensah after the window was insane. Florida State does have youngsters on its roster who will want attention from NFL scouts.
There is a long ways away from the start of college football
I am a fan first of college football. The spring game is a great opportunity for the fan base to get their itch for the sport before the Seminoles kick off in late August. Most individuals will have to watch old highlights from the 2023 team or even the 2013 national championship squad. I feel for the fan base out there that just wants college football in their lives. It really hurts when the arch-rival Florida Gators get to have their spring game in 2026.
