These could be some defensive back prospects to monitor after Mekhi Williams decommitted.

Florida State's 2027 recruiting class is in trouble after the de-commitment of four-star defensive back Mekhi Williams. This was the Seminoles' highest-ranked pledge. Even though it was likely that he would eventually not be in Florida State's recruiting class, it was a reminder of how far the Seminoles have fallen.

The administration made the decision to retain head coach Mike Norvell for the 2026 season. Fans were expecting him to be gone after the Stanford road loss, and they wondered if the program had fallen into the likes of Nebraska.

To make it even worse, the Seminoles have been in free fall for a while, with six losing seasons in eight years. Maybe I have my Garnet and Gold glasses on right now, but I don't believe the sky is falling just yet in Tallahassee. As a result, here are three defensive backs that I would monitor for Florida State after Mekhi Williams decommitted.

Four-star Ta'Shawn Poole

This was an easy one, as four-star safety Ta'Shawn Poole from Macon, Georgia, is someone who is officially visiting Florida State on the weekend of June 12th. The Seminoles have to battle the likes of Clemson and Tennessee. The Tigers have been getting plenty of Florida State's interested prospects, so Dabo Swinney has to be monitored this summer. Poole last visited Tallahassee in April.

Four-star Joshua Vilmael

Joshua Vilmael is a newer name that is emerging, as the Seminoles offered him back in January. The talented defensive back hails from the state of Texas. He unofficially visited Tallahassee in April and plans to use his official visit on the weekend of June 19th. North Carolina and Kansas State are involved, but the Seminoles could certainly get him to commit if they push hard enough.

Three-star Kamarion Johnson

Kamarion Johnson is a three-star safety prospect from Homerville, Georgia, who recently included Florida State in a top-three schools list with Florida and Cincinnati. Johnson will be officially visiting the Seminoles on the weekend of June 12th, but the Gators look to be the leader in the recruitment.
