Florida State football is continuing its spring practices after having its Spring Break last week. The program is trying to wash the bad taste out of its mouth from the 5-7 record in 2025. Head coach Mike Norvell wants to ensure that there is stability surrounding the Seminoles.
The coaching staff decided to add several newcomers to the roster, which could make it difficult for the casual fan. However, that is the nature of the beast in college football nowadays with the transfer portal involved.
Florida State is just scratching the surface of spring practices, but this is a pivotal time for the players on the roster to gel together because the season opener against New Mexico State will be here before we know it. I want to discuss three players on the Seminoles' roster who have improved their stock the most with spring practices.
WR Devin Carter
The son of former Florida State running back Dexter Carter is excelling nicely for the Seminoles. The coaching staff didn't just recruit Devin Carter because of his father. He has consistently been called out by Mike Norvell, who has said that Carter has shown he belongs.
DE Rylan Kennedy
Florida State had to allocate a ton of resources to retain defensive linemen Mandrell Desir, Darryll Desir, and Kevin Wynn this offseason, as they had plans to enter the transfer portal. The fan base was up in arms at the situation, but Florida State was able to get them back in the fold. They also added former Texas A&M defensive end transfer Rylan Kennedy, who is looking to make his mark during his senior season. The Seminoles only grabbed Kennedy at defensive end in the transfer portal.
LB Chris Jones
This is one of my favorite transfer pickups for the Seminoles when they acquired former Southern Miss linebacker Chris Jones. This is a position that Florida State had to get better in: Linebacker. Assistant coach Ernie Sims is leading the group now. Jones had 133 tackles last year for Southern Miss and has already gained positive reviews from Norvell and Sims.
