Florida State football's offseason is somewhat forgettable by the fan base, after suffering through yet another losing season in Tallahassee. This is not the expectation of the place that the legendary Bobby Bowden built.
This is the problem with winning a whopping total of seven games in two years. That is more like Florida Atlantic than Florida State (sorry, Owls...). Nonetheless, the Seminole faithful want much more than that, as they thought the program was well on its way to competing for a College Football Playoff after beating Alabama in the opener, but we saw how that turned out.
Roster had to be flipped once again this offseason with high school recruits and transfers. That is the landscape of college football nowadays. We mentioned that some individuals, such as 247Sports' Bud Elliott, said they didn't believe Florida State had a productive transfer portal class.
With that in mind, here are three of the best Florida State football transfers that were worth every NIL penny.
1. LB Chris Jones
The linebacker position was an area Florida State wanted to fix immediately. Former assistant John Papuchis was hired away to Missouri, and the Seminoles decided to hire from within with Ernie Sims. The former Florida State linebacker will have fun with Southern Miss's Chris Jones, who recorded 133 tackles last year for the Golden Eagles (according to ESPN Stats and Information). Jones was signed with Ole Miss before getting out of his Letter of Intent and signing with Florida State.
2. RB Quintrevion Wisner
Florida State already had returnees Ousmane Kromah and Sam Singleton Jr. at running back, but the Seminoles added Texas's Quintrevion Wisner via the transfer portal. The program played "musical chairs" last year with the running back group, but Wisner has had 2,000+ total yards and ten touchdowns in the last two years for the Longhorns (according to ESPN Stats and Information). Ousmane Kromah is a popular name this spring, but watch out for Wisner.
3. OT Xavier Chaplin
Florida State's offensive line had a productive year in 2025, with assistant Herb Hand leading the charge. It stings losing players like Micah Pettus, Luke Petitbon, Gunnar Hansen, Adrian Medley, and Richie Leonard IV. The Seminoles grabbed former Auburn offensive tackle Xavier Chaplin, who is listed at 6'8" and 354 pounds. He has plenty of experience with blocking for Ashton Daniels and has started in 37 consecutive games.
