Excitement fills the air as Florida State football will be taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the newly-renovated Doak Campbell Stadium.
It is a year where Seminole fans are hoping that there isn't a repeat of what transpired last season, where Florida State finished with a 2-10 record. This was not the standard of a proud football program that is used to accomplish championships.
We are back at it with another countdown, as the Seminoles are twenty-six Saturdays away from the season opener (not counting today since it is Saturday). It might seem like a long time before we get to August 30th, but the truth of the matter is that it will be here before we know it.
There are two players on the Florida State football roster that wear the No. 26 jersey with redshirt senior running back Caziah Holmes and redshirt freshman defensive back Ricky Knight III.
RB CAZIAH HOLMES
The rushing attack was one of the worst in the country last year. However, Holmes was a bright spot in the position when he had a few opportunities during the season. He recorded 84 yards and three rushing yards.
The former Penn State back averaged the most yards per carry by any running back on the roster last year (5.6). With the Seminoles only adding four-star signee Ousmane Kromah to the group, Holmes could be in play to get some burn for the 2025 season.
DB RICKY KNIGHT III
Florida State defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. had a very talented haul of defensive back prospects in the 2024 cycle, which included Charles Lester III, Jamari Howard, Cai Bates, and Ricky Knight III.
Knight III was an underrated piece in the defensive back rotation from West Palm Beach, Florida. The former four-star prospect only made an appearance in one game last season (Charleston Southern) and practiced with the scout team for the majority of the year while redshirting.
The redshirt freshman defender is looking to make his presence known in a defensive backfield that has to replace the likes of Azareye'h Thomas, Fentrell Cypress II, and Kevin Knowles III. I am excited for his development as a player as he continues to blossom and hopefully be a piece in 2025.
