I had FSU football at the top half of my preseason ACC Power Rankings, and so far so good after four weeks.

FSU football overcame Clemson at home to end a seven game losing streak to the Tigers. That loss likely eliminates Clemson from making the ACC Championship game unless something crazy happens.

NC State squeaked by Virginia on the road in Thursday night play. North Carolina handled Pittsburgh on the road easily, and Duke made easy work of UConn. Miami handled another cupcake, and Syracuse had to come from behind to defeat a bad Army team.

FSU’s next opponent, Virginia Tech, lost to Marshall, and Louisville handled Boston College. Georgia Tech upset Wake Forest at home!

Anyways, here are my updated rankings after week four:

  1. FSU football
  2. Duke
  3. Miami
  4. North Carolina
  5. Louisville (+1)
  6. Syracuse (-1)
  7. Clemson
  8. Georgia Tech (+4)
  9. Wake Forest (-1)
  10. NC State
  11. Pittsburgh (-1)
  12. Boston College (+1)
  13. Virginia (+1)
  14. Virginia Tech (-2)

Thoughts

Remarkably, the ACC still has six undefeated teams remaining, but a few O’s, probably going to go in week four. FSU gets a much-needed bye-week as they look to heal up and do some self-scouting.

There are some interesting games in week five as Clemson travels to undefeated Syracuse. No. 11 Notre Dame travels to No. 17 Duke, and Pittsburgh travels to Virginia Tech. Virginia travels to Boston College, and Louisville travels to NC State, where crazy things happen!

Will Syracuse, Louisville, and Duke stay undefeated? I have doubts about a couple of those, and these games will give you a better indication of what each team is or is not. The next couple of weeks will help separate the contenders from the pretenders as the lack of talent and depth begins to get exposed for some teams.

FSU football fans, relax because you’re 4-0 and in the driver’s seat for the rest of the regular season!
