I had FSU football at the top half of my preseason ACC Power Rankings, but we’ll get to see if they stay there after a trip to Clemson this week.

Week three saw ACC teams handle several B1G teams. North Carolina rolled Minnesota, Syracuse beat Purdue, Duke beat Northwestern, and Louisville beat Indiana.

FSU survived against Boston College, and Clemson defeated FAU. Ole Miss rolled Georgia Tech, Rutgers rolled Virginia Tech, West Virginia beat Pitt, and Wake Forest had to come from behind to beat Old Dominion at home.

NC State throttled VMI, and Maryland rolled Virginia in Thursday night action.

Anyways, here are my updated rankings after week three:

  1. FSU football
  2. Duke
  3. Miami
  4. North Carolina
  5. Syracuse
  6. Louisville (+1)
  7. Clemson (+2)
  8. Wake Forest (-2)
  9. NC State (+1)
  10. Pittsburgh (-2)
  11. Georgia Tech
  12. Virginia Tech
  13. Boston College (+1)
  14. Virginia (-1)

Thoughts

Week four is moving week, with FSU traveling to Clemson as small road betting favorites. NC State travels to Virginia, North Carolina travels to Pitt, Georgia Tech travels to Wake Forest, and Boston College travels to Louisville.

The rest of the ACC teams play out-of-conference opponents. ACC has several team still undefeated (FSU, Duke, Miami, North Carolina, Syracuse, Wake Forest, Louisville), with strong out of conference records against the SEC and B1G.

However, this week will help determine if there’s been a balance in power change at the top with Clemson looking to hold off FSU.

A loss against FSU, and Clemson’s hopes of competing for another ACC Championship likely go up in smoke. An FSU win gives them a clear path to the ACC Championship game unless they stumble against some teams they have no business losing against. However, we just saw the Boston College game! I expect the Noles to right the ship this week and play much better against a Clemson team that looks improved over their week one performance against Duke.
