FSU football has some big-time targets remaining in its 2024 recruiting class. A few will announce their commitment decisions in the next week or so.

One is Class of 2024 three-star athlete Gregory Smith III from Sumner High School in Riverview, Florida.

He will announce his commitment decision on August 1st, according to his Twitter account.

Smith III played quarterback and defensive back at his high school this past season.

He also teammates with Class of 2025 four-star interior offensive lineman Ziyare Addison, who is  heavily pursued by the Seminoles.

I recently conducted a Q&A with the talented athlete, where I was able to get more insight about him as a prospect and a person.

Q: When you are away from the football field, what are some things that you enjoy doing?

A: “I enjoy fishing on my free time and spending time with my family.”

Q: What/who inspired you to play the game of football?

A: “Playing football runs in my family, but my dad and grandparents inspired me to play football.”

Q: You recently got offered by Florida State last month. How was that experience like for you? Which coach do you speak to the most?

A: “I had to work for that FSU offer, and I love that about Florida State and their program. Me and coach Fuller keep in touch a lot. We talk weekly.”

Q: You are listed as an athlete on some recruiting databases. What positions do you play in high school and what position does FSU like you as?

A: “I play QB and DB for Sumner High School. FSU wants me as a DB.”

Q: When you visited Tallahassee last month for an unofficial visit, what stood out to you the most about the trip? Do you have any plans for coming back this season for a game?

A: “I have been to FSU a lot and I learn and see new things each time. There is not really anything specific that stood out, but learning new facts about the program is one.”

Q: As you get into the heart of your recruitment, what are some things that you will be focusing on in choosing a school?

A: “I will focus on what school fits for me and what school makes me feel at home!”

For reference, FSU is recruiting Smith III as a defensive back, but this does not mean that they are missing out on highly-touted prospects such as five-star safety KJ Bolden, five-star cornerback Charles Lester III, and four-star cornerback Jalewis Solomon.
