FSU football fans understand the prestigious history of defensive backs at this university, where you had guys like Deion Sanders, Terrell Buckley, Antonio Cromartie, and LeRoy Butler, among others, who have worn the garnet and gold.

On Thursday afternoon, former Florida State cornerback Jalen Ramsey went to his Twitter account and announced that he and former safety Derwin James Jr. were the highest-rated players at their position on Madden 24.

Ramsey is listed as a 97 overall at the cornerback position, while James Jr. lists 95 overall at strong safety.

The conversation for defensive back university (DBU) has elevated in recent years between a variety of collegiate teams, but the Seminoles are certainly making a case to being “DBU” with those two defensive backs excelling at the professional level.

Unstoppable duo

Ramsey had a sensational three-year playing career with the Seminoles, where he had 181 total tackles (15.5 tackles for loss), five sacks, three interceptions, four forced fumbles, and two defensive touchdowns.

James Jr. also played in Tallahassee for three seasons, where he had 186 total tackles (15 tackles for loss), 5.5 sacks, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one defensive touchdown.

The dynamic duo played together during the 2015 season, where the defense allowed 4.68 yards per play, which ranked No. 10 in the FBS.

Initial reaction

I personally believe that Jalen Ramsey and Derwin James Jr’s overall rating is reasonable for this edition of Madden (typically, Madden ratings are a bit crazy when initially released).

During the 2022 season, Ramsey had 88 total tackles, four interceptions, three forced fumbles, and two sacks with the Los Angeles Rams. While James Jr. had 115 total tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and four sacks with the Los Angeles Chargers.

For reference, the initial release of Madden 24 is August 18, 2023. However, individuals can pre-order the Deluxe Edition to have early access to the game on August 15, 2023.
