FSU football will go into the 2023 season with one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, Jordan Travis. His progression over the past two years is something I’m not sure I’ve seen in college football.

Travis has always had talent, but poor coaching(at Louisville and early years at FSU), a pandemic, and injuries delayed his potential. However, we saw glimpses of it in the 2020 season when he could remain healthy.

I wrote two years ago his progression could be similar to Lamar Jackson. I remember folks laughed at the time, despite clearly stating I was not expecting Travis to win the Heisman Trophy in the upcoming 2021 season.

I wrote about them here in my projections in what we may be able to expect from Jordan Travis in the 2022 season.

Here are the 2022 projections I made if the coaching staff gave him more of the workload and he could remain healthy:

"Here’s the average number of passes, passing yards, and runs for Travis in the final three games(he missed about one-quarter of the Florida game). -29.6 passing attempts -18.6 completions -242.3 yards per game -17.3 rushing attempts -64 rushing yards per game If we extrapolate that over a 12-game regular season? Here’s the stat projected stat line -355 passing attempts -223 completions (62.8 percent) -2,907 passing yards -204 rushing attempts -768 rushing yards If we extrapolate that over a 12-game regular season? Here’s the stat projected stat line. I’m not sure I’m sold on his body holding up with that many rushing attempts per game, but if he comes anywhere close to these overall numbers, it’ll be the best season by an FSU QB since 2016"

I certainly didn’t expect Travis to run the ball over 200 times, but I figured the staff would turn him loose more in the passing game, and they did. Travis attempted 315 passes through 12 games for 2,796 yards.

He only averaged six rushes per game, but mainly because they didn’t have to use his legs because of his progression through the air. Now that we’ve seen Jordan Travis can maintain his health for an entire year. How good can he be in 2023?
