Will FSU football take 25 high school players in 2024 recruiting class?
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football coaches have started silencing the recruiting doubters over the past few days as the July fireworks Mike Norvell hinted at started to pop off on July 1st.
Those fireworks will continue on July 4 and throughout the remainder of July as FSU has positioned itself to add several more commits to its 2024 recruiting class. FSU has 13 commitments(nine blue-chip) and will likely add at least two more on July 4th, which puts the Noles at 15.
There are 1-2 commits that may not be on the firmest of foundations, so we must factor that into the equation. Let’s say one of those will not be in the class, so let’s split the difference, which leaves 11 remaining spots for the Noles to reach 25 high school players.
Are there enough realistic quality targets for the Noles to take that many prep players? By my count, there are at least six players who I expect to join this class within the next month or so. That leaves five more players out there to make the 25 total.
I’d say there are three more players remaining that FSU football coaches have at least a 50/50 shot to land. There is another handful that is probably not probable right now, but the first four weeks of the season could change things if the Noles get off to a 4-0 start.
I don’t think the coaching staff will take a player to try and fill a roster spot at this point. They’ll likely reserve spots for transfer portal players if they are unsure if they like a high school player enough to add him to the class.
FSU hasn’t signed 25 high school players since the 2020 transition class when Mike Norvell took over for Willie Taggart. The average per-player ranking for that class was 87.96.
I have a feeling the 2024 recruiting class per player average ranking will be significantly higher (it’s 90.58 now with several blue-chip players yet to join the class).
