FSU baseball is undergoing many changes on its roster, with Link Jarrett officially welcoming several players to the program last week.

However, the staff has changed, with pitching coach Chuck Ristano leaving to take the head coaching job at Navy. That move prompted the hire of new pitching coach Micah Posey.

Ristano followed Jarrett to FSU after coaching with him at Notre Dame. Posey was a 15th-round selection in the 2001 MLB Draft and played four years in the minors.

He was a 2004 Midwest All-Star League and came back to graduate from FSU in 2011. Posey began his coaching career at his high school in Tallahassee, teaming up with his father to win the 3-A state championship in 2011.

His collegiate coaching experience expands over a decade, and heโ€™s developed players and gotten results at every stop.

Pitching was the weakness of the 2023 team, but that is no sleight to the departing Chuck Ristano. Those issues stemmed from injuries, players lost to the transfer portal during the coaching transition, and probably some poor evaluations with the old staff.

Nevertheless, recruiting and development are where Posey has made his mark. The accolades of his pitching staff at all of his stops are known for strikeouts and excellent strikeout/walk ratios.

Most recently, his pitching staff at Dallas Baptist University set the school record for strikeouts in all three seasons, averaging 10.6 in 2023. Posey has had 29 players drafted or signed to professional baseball contracts.

Thatโ€™s while coaching at places that donโ€™t have the allure or history of FSU baseball. Posey is known for his implementation of advanced technology, but itโ€™s his recruiting acumen for great arms that make this hire so great.

Heโ€™s grown up around the game his entire life, played at a high level, and knows what FSU baseball expectations are all about. I really like this hire by Link Jarrett.
