FSU football: Kickoff times announced for the first three games of 2023

FSU football had the luxury of having nighttime slots for the majority of their games last season. Eight contests were played at 7:30 PM EST or later. On Wednesday afternoon, the Seminoles announced the kickoff times for the first three games of the 2023 season.

FSU vs. LSU (Orlando, FL)

As expected, the LSU neutral-site matchup in Orlando is at 7:30 PM EST. This most likely be a top-ten matchup after the Tigers finished with a 10-4 record last season. Quarterback Jayden Daniels will be returning along with wide receiver Malik Nabers. On the defensive side of the football, linebacker Harold Perkins and defensive tackle Maason Smith (who suffered a season-ending injury in the first quarter of last year’s game) will be headlining the unit. Hopefully, it begins the season on a high note. Let’s hope it doesn’t have to come down to another blocked extra point to win the game.

FSU vs. Southern Miss

To my surprise, the Southern Miss game in Doak Campbell Stadium will be at 8:30 PM EST. They finished with a 7-6 record in 2022. I thought the contest against the Golden Eagles could be an early kickoff time. But the football Gods seem to be looking out for those FSU football fans seated on the non-shady portion of the stadium. Those non-local fans will likely get a hotel for the end of the game around midnight. It certainly benefits Tallahassee businesses and is a win-win for both parties.

FSU at BC

The road matchup against Boston College Eagles in Alumni Stadium will be at noon EST. I imagine that an early kickoff is preferred by fans making the trip to Chestnut Hill. It beats having to play the Eagles in freezing conditions in November. According to DraftKings, Boston College has an over/under win total of 5.5 after finishing the 2022 season with a 3-9 record. With veteran quarterback Phil Jurkovec transferring to Pittsburgh and talented wide receiver Zay Flowers now playing for the Baltimore Ravens, this could be an opportunity for the Seminoles to get ready for its monumental road matchup against the Clemson Tigers the following week.
