FSU softball (54-9) saw its offense come alive in the first game of the Super Regionals against Georgia for an 8-1 victory. The Noles wasted some opportunities early, getting runners on first and third with no outs and not scoring any runs.

They also had some bad luck early, as Katie Dack scorched a line drive that the UGA third base lady snagged for the third out with runners in scoring position. FSU pitching ace Kathryn Sandercock got the win, allowing one earned run on a solo home run in the top of the second inning. However, she responded nicely and dominated the Bulldogs through 5.2 innings.

She allowed six hits, two strikeouts, and zero walks. FSU got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, scoring four runs on four hits. Josie Muffley led off with a single and scored on a Kaley Mudge double.

Kalei Harding hit a double to score Mudge, and Michaela Endenfield hit a single that scored Harding.

Mack Leonard brought in another run with a fielder’s choice. They scored four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on three hits and a UGA error. Kaley Mudge had a huge night, going 3-3 with three RBI. Kalei Harding went 2-4 with an RBI. Hallie Wacaser had a huge hit in the bottom of the fifth to score two runs.

FSU batters had nine hits, and four walks and only struck out twice. Coach Lonni Alameda brought in Ali DuBois with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to save Sandercock’s arm with the large lead. Dubois’s changeup was in full effect, baffling UGA hitters after seeing Sandercock’s fastball at 68+ mph.

She didn’t allow a hit in 1.1 innings and struck out three batters. It’s where I’ve said DuBois has been most effective all season. FSU is in the driver’s seat and could put UGA away with a win Friday night.
