FSU football spring training is in full swing and with the spring game around the corner, the depth chart will be a moving target. This is my Pre-Spring depth chart and position analysis.

QUARTERBACK

It’s no secret Jordan Travis will be the starter. The key battle will be for the backup role, which could lead to who has the edge next season. I like AJ Duffy to have a nice spring game, and he has shown so far in practice to be more accurate than Rodemaker. Tate has struggled with interceptions this spring, but he does have game experience. Position Grade: A-

RUNNING BACK

Trey Benson chose to come back for another year for a reason. Coach Norvell love Benson and was willing to let Treshaun Ward transfer out. That shows me that he has full confidence in Benson as his starter. Lawrance Toafili will continue to see a good amount of reps on third down and to spell Benson. Rodney Hill is young and has the potential to see some time as well. Overall, having Benson back makes this unit one of the better in the ACC. Position Grade: A

WIDE RECEIVER

A position that was once a weak spot on the team in years past has now become a strength with a playmaker like Johnny Wilson emerging and transfers Winston Wright and Deuce Spann, who have high upside. Kentron Poitier is a player that could have a breakout season, as he has shown to be a player that could stretch the field. Freshman wideouts 5-star Hykeem Williams and 4-star Vandrevius Jacobs are going through spring practice, but it is Jacobs that is showing he has the skills to play if needed this season. The injury to Mycah Pittman is unfortunate, but I feel the team will be ok without him to start the season. Position Grade: B+

TIGHT END

Has FSU football ever had a TE with the skills and athletic ability of Jaheim Bell? That answer is no. Bell will give Norvell and Jordan Travis many options on offense, as he can line up all over the field and exploit mismatches. Transfer Kyle Morlock has had a great spring so far and is catching everything thrown at him. The rest of the tight ends, like Markeston Douglas will be more depth as the season goes on. Position Grade: A

OFFENSIVE LINE

The offensive line hasn’t had this much depth since maybe the Bobby Bowden days. Thanks to the transfer portal Coach Norvell and staff have been able to flip the position into a strength of the offense. Being able to protect Jordan Travis and opening holes for Trey Benson is vital to the success of this offense. Robert Scott Jr deciding to come back helps with continuity, although he’ll miss all spring rehabbing. Transfers Jeremiah Byers, Keiondre Jones, D’Mitri Emmanuel, Bless Harris, and Casey Roddick provide much-needed depth and experience. Top prospect Julian Armella probably would have been the starting left tackle if Scott went to the NFL.  Position Grade: A
