FSU football head coach Mike Norvell spoke with the media after completing the first day of spring camp.

One of the biggest nuggets he shared was that five players would miss the entire spring, including four veteran players.

While it’s never great for players to miss an entire spring camp, I don’t think these guys missing spring camp is anything to freak out about.

Let’s discuss the impact the guys that’ll miss time.

Robert Scott-Robert Scott was FSU’s starting left tackle in 11 games last year. The All-ACC second-teamer missing time will hurt from a development standpoint, but he’ll likely have time in the summer and fall to prepare for the season. If anything, he can spend time helping the young offensive linemen at practice with pointers and become another coach on the field.

Mycah Pittman-Pittman has played a lot of college football and is a savvy veteran. He’s not someone I worry about when it comes to being ready when the season starts unless he reaggravates an injury or something. His absence will allow Winston Wright and young freshmen like Vandrevius Jacobs to get more practice reps, which could expedite their development.

Kevin Knowles-Knowles is another guy that’s played a lot of football in the last two years. Greedy Vance began to take some of the snaps at nickel towards the end of the year. Knowles missing time will allow others to get reps at the position to build better depth.

Aaron Hester-Hester missing spring camp hurts him more than anything. He redshirted last season and wasn’t expected to be a consistent contributor in 2023. However, he needed a solid spring camp to get some traction in the defensive end rotation. This absence could allow other young players like Dante Anderson and Byron Turner Jr. to bypass him.

Malcolm Ray-Ray is another player that’s played a lot of football for FSU over the past few years. He played injured last year when FSU’s lack of depth got exposed on the defensive line. FSU’s transfer portal additions of Darrell Jackson and Braden Fiske probably pushed him down on the depth chart. His absence in the spring could allow young guys like Daniel Lyons and Ayobami Tifase to emerge.

Here’s to hoping FSU football can escape spring camp without any major injuries that could impact the roster.
