The Link Jarrett era for FSU baseball will get underway two weeks from today when the Noles host James Madison in its season opener.

The Noles began preseason camp a few days ago and will go into the season with lower expectations than in years past.

The Noles lost a lot of production from its pitching rotation, but some untapped potential talent could develop as the season progresses.

FSU returns some offensive production from the likes of Jaime Ferrer, James Tibbs, and Jordan Carrion. However, there are lots of questions marks going into the season.

It’s likely why FSU coaches picked the Noles to finish third in the ACC Atlantic Thursday:

Thoughts

Link Jarrett spoke with the media at length as spring camp began a few days ago. His teams historically perform defensively, which would be a major upgrade over the past few seasons in Tallahassee.

They do the little things well and don’t beat themselves, which would be a major upgrade over the past few seasons. The biggest Link Jarrett concern seems to be the pitching, which has been a program strength in recent years.

FSU lost three pitchers that were weekend starters at one point or another from last year’s team. They have some talented arms, but I’m not sure they have the depth Link Jarret would like, but it’s figuring out where those arms perform best for the team.

From an offensive standpoint, teams can generate runs without being a great hitting team. However, will the pitching staff be good enough to hold opposing offenses in check? Will an improved defense help negate not having the pitching experience from year’s past?

This team will be a work and progress and likely frustrating at times early in the season. However, I think we’ll see an improved product overall in 2023.
