FSU football went into the Early Signing Day with a handful of uncommitted prospects they could sign.

One of those was three-star athlete Edwin Joseph, and he chose to sign with the Noles Wednesday.

Joseph played on both sides of the ball at Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Florida but will play defensive back for the Noles.

Joseph fits what the Noles look for at 6’0″ and 170 pounds, with a 6″6″ wingspan.

The Noles beat out Miami, Louisville, Auburn, and Penn State. Miami wanted him so badly, they met with his parents while he was away. Joseph took a last minute official visit to Louisville last week and officially visited FSU on December 9th.

He had been spending time with five-star wide receiver and FSU signee Hykeem Williams, who likely played a role in his recruitment since they both hail from South Florida.

Overall Thoughts

Edwin Joseph is an excellent addition to the class that’s not filled with blue-chip defensive backs.  That’s not to say these guys aren’t good football players, because I believe they are all FSU quality. It’s always good to sign a player from South Florida who Miami covets because they only have two high school defensive backs in their recruiting class.

One thing that stands out about these FSU players is they all have great size and length and can likely play safety and cornerback in a pinch. The coaching staff had to take a large defensive backs class after only signing two top 100 players last recruiting cycle, and one of those players is in the transfer portal (Sam McCall).

Joseph is not an early enrollee and will not arrive in Tallahassee until this summer. That will likely delay his opportunity to become a contributor early, but we’ve seen freshmen in that position get on the field at FSU in recent years.
