FSU football: Noles continue to kill portal recruiting with Keiondre Jones commitment
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football has added its third offensive lineman from the transfer portal in as many days.
Auburn transfer offensive lineman Keiondre Jones announced his commitment Tuesday afternoon after officially visiting this past weekend.
It’s the sixth commitment from the portal since it officially opened on December 5th. That’s two tight ends, three offensive linemen, and one defensive tackle so far.
I don’t think any team is hotter in transfer portal recruiting than the Noles.
Jones is a former starter at Auburn with two years of eligibility left. He checks in at a massive 6’4″ and 340 pounds, and will likely need to get into better shape to be effective in Tallahassee.
He lost his starting job last year, but the Auburn program was in disarray, eventually firing their head coach and finishing 5-7. Jones originally hails from Georgia and was the No. 144 player overall, and No. 8 offensive guard in the 2019 recruiting cycle.
There’s talent and experience there, just like the other two additions from the portal, which they need with the departures of Dillan Gibbons and D’Mitri Emmanuel. It also creates more competition and flexibility among the offensive linemen, with FSU offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Alex Atkins cross-training these guys for multiple positions.
That aspect paid off in spades, as the FSU offensive line had to work around several injuries last year to remain one of the better units in the ACC. These additions will likely push a couple of guys that likely won’t get to play toward the transfer portal.
The goal of the coaching staff is to maximize the 85 scholarships that they have. Jones is a mauler on the interior and should help the run game immensely, provided he gets into shape.
The good news is he will enroll this spring and allow the FSU strength and conditioning staff to get him into their program to work their magic. Welcome to Nolenation Keiondre Jones!
