FSU football offensive line coach and offensive coordinator Alex Atkins continues to do major work on the recruiting trail.

The Noles landed their second offensive line commit from the transfer portal in as many days with the addition of UTEP transfer Jeremiah Byers.

Jeremiah Byers officially visited the Noles weekend before last and received offers from Ohio State, Penn State, and Oregon.

Byers made the announcement Monday night via Twitter:

This commitment is a massive win for FSU football. Byers played right tackle for UTEP the last two seasons and has two years of eligibility left. He earned Conference-USA First Team accolades this year and was Honorable Mention Conference-USA last year as a redshirt freshman.

He checks in at 6’4″ and 315 pounds with 30 career starts. Byers is another example of FSU coaches identifying priority targets early, getting them on campus for official visits, with a commitment soon after.

We’ve seen that with all five transfer commits since they entered the transfer portal. Byers coupled with Casey Roddick, who committed Sunday, helps replace the experience lost from the departures of Dylan Gibbons and D’Mitri Emmanuel after the Cheez-It Bowl next week.

The crazy thing is FSU may add more from the transfer portal at the offensive line position. Keiondre Jones and John Campbell could be other viable options for the Noles after officially visiting last weekend. One thing is for sure.

FSU made the trenches a major priority over the past year and has set itself up to win a lot of games against a favorable schedule in 2023.

The most explosive offense in the nation just added experience and depth, which allows the younger offensive linemen who redshirted in 2022 to continue developing without throwing them in the fire too early. FSU football has the No. 2 transfer class nationally.

Welcome to Nolenation Jeremiah Byers!
