FSU football has been one of the hottest programs in college football over the past five weeks.

The Noles dismantled Georgia Tech, Miami, Syracuse, Louisiana-Lafayette, and secured their first state championship since 2016 with a win over Florida last Friday night.

They covered the betting spread in the last six of their last seven games. Most advanced metrics rank the Noles around between No. 10 nationally, and the latest composite rankings have the Noles at No. 12.

The Noles received  the No. 14 ranking in the latest AP Poll this week.

Clemson is the only ACC team ranked ahead of the Noles even though they suffered an upset loss against rival South Carolina last week. The Tigers will take on North Carolina in the ACC Championship game, with the Tarheels coming off a loss against rival NC State. Talk about a lackluster conference championship game.

It’s crazy to think the Noles would be just on the outside looking in if the 12 team playoff were in play this year, but could sneak in the backdoor if a team ahead of them lost in their conference championship game. That will be something to keep an eye on for next year’s format.

What’s crazier is, I can’t believe they rightfully put FSU in front of LSU since the Noles beat them in their head-to-head matchup. The committee had LSU at No. 5 last week before their upset loss against Texas A&M.

I think FSU could beat several teams ranked in front of them in the College Football Playoff, but now all we can do is what to see where we’ll play our bowl game in late December.

I expect the Noles to likely remain in Florida for their bowl game, but I’m sure others would like to have the Noles knowing their fan base will likely travel.
