I had FSU football in the top half of my preseason ACC Power Rankings, and I feel like the way I’ve been on point with my takes regarding the rest of the ACC.

FSU football defeated the Florida Gators to become state champions in Florida and Louisiana. That makes the Noles 2-0 against the SEC this year. I’d pick FSU to roll Clemson if they played this week.

Clemson lost their rivalry game against South Carolina and North Carolina lost their rivalry game against NC State. The ACC Championship game between Clemson and North Carolina means nothing in the national picture. Clemson losing made FSU’s shot to play in the Orange Bowl evaporate.

Syracuse beat Boston College, Louisville lost to Kentucky, and Wake Forest lost to Duke. Wake Forest fell off a cliff after their loss against Louisville. I think it’s safe to say that program is about to fall back to earth.

Pittsburgh dominated Miami and prevented the Canes from making a bowl game. Georgia Tech hung with Georgia for a hot second before getting dispatched with ease.

Here are my updated rankings by division and then overall as a conference:

ACC Atlantic

  • Clemson (10-2, 8-0 ACC)
  • FSU (9-3, 5-3 ACC)
  • Syracuse (7-5, 4-4 ACC)
  • Louisville (7-5, 4-4 ACC)
  • NC State (8-4, 4-4 ACC)
  • Wake Forest (7-5, 3-5 ACC)
  • Boston College (3-9, 2-6 ACC)

ACC Coastal

  • North Carolina (9-3, 6-2 ACC)
  • Pittsburgh (8-4, 5-3 ACC)
  • Duke (8-4, 5-3 ACC)
  • Miami (5-7, 3-5 ACC)
  • Georgia Tech (5-7, 4-4 ACC)
  • Virginia Tech (3-8, 1-6 ACC)
  • Virginia (3-7, 1-6 ACC)

Overall Power Rankings

  1. Clemson
  2. FSU
  3. North Carolina
  4. Louisville
  5. Pittsburgh
  6. Syracuse
  7. NC State
  8. Wake Forest

  13. Boston College
  14. Virginia

Parting Thoughts

FSU is playing like the best team in the ACC right now. I’d take them over anyone in the conference and most of the teams ranked ahead of them in the AP poll. It’s time to wait and see which bowl they get selected to play in later this month.

It will depend on who comes back for FSU, but they should be among the favorites to win the ACC next year unless Jordan Travis decides he’s had enough of college football(I think he returns).
