FSU football has been one of the hottest programs in college football over the past four weeks.

The Noles dismantled Georgia Tech, Miami, Syracuse, and Louisiana-Lafayette and will enter this week’s game against Florida as -9.5 betting favorites.

They covered the betting spread in the last six games. Most advanced metrics rank the Noles around between No. 10 nationally, and the latest composite rankings have the Noles at No. 10.

The Noles received  the No. 16 ranking in the latest AP Poll this week.

Clemson is the only ACC team ranked ahead of the Noles with North Carolina’s upset loss against lowly Georgia Tech last week.

They finally succumbed to a weaker team on their schedule after several close calls earlier in the year. I said last week I’d take the Noles over everyone in the ACC, and that remains the case. The Noles are the rightful winners of the SEC West, and going into the Florida game as near double-digit favorites should tell you all you need to know.

A win over Florida could put the Noles in the top 12 next week, provided more teams ranked ahead continue to lose as they have in the past few weeks. How crazy is that, considering FSU went into last year’s game against Florida needing a win to become bowl eligibility?

I know it’s crazy, but FSU needs Clemson to make the College Football Playoff top four for a shot to make a New Year’s Six Bowl (Orange Bowl).

The last time that happened, we saw Dalvin Cook lead the Noles past the Michigan Wolverines as touchdown underdogs in 2016. Clemson ranks No. 8, and some big games taking place this week could help them move up if some teams lose. No. 6 USC will play No. 15 Notre Dame, and No. 7 Alabama will take on Auburn.

No. 2 Ohio State will take on No. 3 Michigan and No. 4 TCU, and No. 5 LSU will likely win their respective games. How far does the loser of the Ohio State and Michigan game fall?

LSU will play Georgia next week in the SEC Championship game, so depending on how things shake out the Noles could find themselves in a major bowl.

However, they need to concentrate on beating Florida Friday night, so any of those things can remain possible.
