FSU football: Reaction to 4-star Brock Glenn flipping to Noles from Ohio St.
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football coaches got their guy Monday evening as four-star QB Brock Glenn announced he’s flipping his commitment from Ohio State to the Noles.
The coaching staff played a dangerous but necessary game in this recruitment cycle. The Noles had one QB commit in Chris Parson but chose to pursue a second, and one they had higher on their recruiting board.
When Parson and his folks balked at FSU taking a second QB, plus Ohio State entered Glenn’s recruitment, it meant the Noles could not sign any blue-chip QBs in this recruitment cycle. Ultimately, Parson de-committed, and Glenn committed to Ohio State.
However, this was before the Noles began the season 4-0 and surprised a lot of folks in the process. It was before Jordan Travis achieved play levels we’ve never seen before.
Here’s what I said when Glenn originally announced his commitment to Ohio State:
"Mike Norvell’s future rides on the 2022 season. If they don’t win at least seven games, I’m not saying he’ll get fired, but it won’t be enough progress to make necessary changes to the staff or attract enough difference-makers on the recruiting trail."
FSU has eight wins, with a great shot at nine and possibly 10 with a bowl win. The FSU offense is among the best in the nation, and FSU has blown out four consecutive opponents. The mantra, “offense built for playmakers” has proof of concept, and Jordan Travis looks like one of the best players in the nation. Kudos to Mike Norvell and QB coach Tony Tokarz for sticking to their guns in this recruiting battle. Glenn always said he felt Mike Norvell’s offense fit him the best. It’s a big win for both, not to mention FSU already had a stud 2024 QB commit in Luke Kromenhoek.
The new addition pushes the Noles to No. 15 nationally and raises the blue-chip ratio to 59 percent. The Noles have 16 prep players and one transfer in the 2023 class. They’ll likely add 3-5 more prep players and finish the remaining slots from players from the transfer portal at key positions.
