I had FSU football in the top half of my preseason ACC Power Rankings, and I feel like the way I’ve been on point with my takes regarding the rest of the ACC.

FSU football rolled Louisiana-Lafayette for their fourth consecutive win and clinched second in the ACC Atlantic Division.

The upset of the week was Georgia Tech knocking off North Carolina, who has gone life and death with terrible teams like Appalachian State, UVA, Miami, and Duke. The Syracuse Orange continue to fall off like Big Mac toppings in the backend of their schedule as Wake Forest rolled them.

Duke lost against Pittsburgh, and Miami got destroyed by Clemson as expected. Louisville defeated a reeling NC State team, a loss that continues to haunt FSU fans.

Here are my updated rankings by division and then overall as a conference:

ACC Atlantic

  • Clemson (10-1, 8-0 ACC)
  • FSU (8-3, 5-3 ACC)
  • Wake Forest (7-4, 3-4 ACC)
  • Louisville (7-4, 4-4 ACC)
  • Syracuse (6-5, 3-4 ACC)
  • NC State (7-4, 3-4 ACC)
  • Boston College (3-8, 2-5 ACC)

ACC Coastal

  • North Carolina (9-2, 6-1 ACC)
  • Pittsburgh (7-4, 4-3 ACC)
  • Duke (7-4, 4-3 ACC)
  • Miami (5-6, 3-4 ACC)
  • Georgia Tech (5-6, 4-4 ACC)
  • Virginia Tech (3-8, 1-6 ACC)
  • Virginia (3-7, 1-6 ACC) (Week 12 game cancelled)

Overall Power Rankings

  1. Clemson
  2. FSU
  3. North Carolina
  4. Wake Forest
  5. Louisville
  6. Pittsburgh
  7. Syracuse
  8. NC State
  9. Duke
  10. Miami
  11. Georgia Tech
  12. Virginia Tech
  13. Boston College
  14. Virginia

Parting Thoughts

I think FSU would beat Clemson and Wake Forest in a rematch, but have to continue to put the Tigers at No. 1 since they haven’t lost a conference game. I know some folks may have questioned why I put FSU over North Carolina last week, but now you see why with their loss against Georgia Tech.

The Noles will host rival Florida Friday night in primetime. Miami has to beat Pittsburgh to become bowl eligible next week.

There isn’t much separation between No. 5-9, and I wanted to put Georgia Tech over Miami, but Miami just beat them handedly last week. I want to send prayers to UVA as they cancelled their game this week due to the tragedy they experience.
